Job summary

South Shore Health is seeking a full-time Emergency Medical Technician for the SSH Ambulance department in Weymouth, MA. The EMT will respond to non-emergent and emergent calls, provide BLS care, and transport patients to appropriate facilities in a timely, professional manner.

The role requires EMT-B certification with BLS and ACLS, a valid MA driver's license, and at least one year of EMT experience. The position operates day/evening shifts with a rotating schedule.

Qualifications

• EMT-B, EMT-A and EMT-P certifications are required.
• One year of EMT experience is preferred.
• Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record as required by MA.
• BLS certification is required; ACLS is also required.

Responsibilities

• Responds promptly to both non-emergency and emergency requests as directed by the dispatcher.
• Provides pre-hospital care within the EMT scope of practice.

The Emergency Medical Technician responds to both non–emergent and emergent requests for medical transportation, provides emergency and non–emergency care in the pre–hospital environment within the scope of practice, and provides safe and efficient transportation of the patient to appropriate facility or residence.

Compensation Pay Range

$21.21 - $29.70

Essential Functions

• Responds promptly to requests for non–emergent and emergency calls as directed by the dispatcher in a timely and safe manner.
• Upon receiving request from dispatcher, responds to request in a timely fashion.
• Maintains sufficient knowledge of area geography and traffic patterns
• Follows Massachusetts Laws, Chapter 89, Section 7 and Chapter 90, Sections 7, 13, 14, 16, and 17 regarding emergency vehicle operation.
• Parks vehicle in areas designed by local fire, police, or hospital for patient pick-up and discharge.
• Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
• Run report will be completely accurately and legibly.
• Vehicle and equipment checklist will be completed on every shift.
• Obtains insurance information from transferring institution or receiving hospital.
• Ensures vehicle and equipment are ready for response at all times.
• Knows location and proper use of all equipment and radios.
• Restocks vehicle and equipment within 15 minutes of run
• Keeps vehicle clean and maintains fuel and stock as needed
• Reports damaged or unsafe equipment to Supervisor upon problem identification.
• Renders pre-hospital care at EMT-B level.
• Performs complete and accurate BLS patient assessments.
• Is proficient in all BLS skills
• Has a pleasant and professional manner with all patients and their families
• Adheres to state and Region IV BLS treatment protocols.
• Gives accurate and concise radio reports.
• Performs assigned duties in the Emergency Department under the supervision of the ED physicians.
• Assists as ancillary staff performing only those duties within the scope of practice or training.
• Maintains a good working relationship with fellow employees, community emergency service providers, hospital staff, physicians and other allied health professionals.
• Represents South Shore Hospital and the Ambulance Department in a positive, professional manner.
• Interacts with department paramedics and hospital employees in a spirit of cooperation and in the patient’s best interest.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education - Preferred

High School diploma or equivalent

Minimum Work Experience

One (1) year experience as an Emergency Medical Technician preferred.

Required Licenses

VDL - Valid Drivers License (Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record at time of hire with annual verification required thereafter)

• EMT-P Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic

• Temporary FT schedule Wednesday 8am-12 mid, Friday 10a-10p, Saturday 930a-930pm
