Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking an EMT-B in Hazleton to perform basic life support and assist during emergency patient care and transport. You will work as part of a two-person ambulance crew, assess and document patient conditions, and coordinate with hospital teams for continued treatment.

The role requires holding EMT-B and BLS certifications, a PA driver’s license, and the ability to operate under high-stress conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the ambulance service at public events and provide stand-by services.
  • Assist with ALS duties for paramedics and coordinate with other emergency services.
  • Provide medical, traumatic, and therapeutic care for patients.
  • Document assessments and treatments in patient care records.
  • Operate emergency vehicles and respond to dispatch instructions.
  • Assess injuries or illness and prioritize procedures.
  • Communicate with hospital staff for treatment plans.
  • Stabilize, immobilize, and move victims as needed.
  • Inspect and ensure equipment is maintained and safe.

Job description

Summary

Performs basic life support (BLS) services and assists in emergency medical, traumatic, psychiatric care, and stabilization for patients in accidents or illness scenes and during transportation to medical facilities and/or during interfacility transports.

Job Duties
  • Represents the ambulance service while on duty at public service functions, expositions, and other public events and provides ambulance stand by services, when necessary.
  • Assists with advanced life support (ALS ) services for paramedic partners with patients requiring higher levels of care along with emergency scene management and coordination with other emergency services.
  • Cares for patients in psychiatric, medical, and traumatic crisis by providing medical, traumatic, and therapeutic services.
  • Documents full assessment and treatments in patient care charting software.
  • Serves as a member of a two member ambulance crew responding to emergency and nonemergency calls.
  • Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
  • Responds to instructions from a dispatcher and drives and operates specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations at a safe and controlled speed.
  • Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment.
  • Stabilizes, immobilizes, lifts, and moves victims from scene of accident or catastrophe.
  • Establishes an equipment inspection schedule and verifies that all equipment is being inspected and reviewed for compliance and makes recommendations for risk reductions on workplace injuries. Cleans and decontaminates ambulance after transporting or treating any patient.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED within 2 years of hire
  • Less than 1 year
  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and to utilize critical thinking.
  • Ability to drive an ambulance safely under various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrates and adheres to program policies and procedures regarding ambulance safety and transport communications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association Upon Hire and

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year Experience working in advanced life support (ALS) or
  • 1 year Pre-hospital experience as an Emergency Medical Technician on an EMS Unit
Physical Demands

Lift over 50 lbs. Push/pull up to 140 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. short distances. Frequent standing/walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching overhead.
