Job summary

The Clark County Fire Department seeks an EMS Training Instructor to design, deliver, and evaluate training for emergency medical services, fire service, and supervision. The role includes coordinating classes, obtaining resources, and producing instructional aids, with an emphasis on safety and quality improvement.

Qualifications include an Associate's degree or 60 credits, one year of training experience, and Paramedic certification with EMS Instructor I or higher.

Qualifications

• One year of full-time professional experience in providing training or instruction, preferably in a system delivering 911 EMS.
• Paramedic certification and EMS Instructor I or higher required at time of application; Instructor II within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, design and deliver specialized EMS training programs for public safety personnel.
• Assist in scheduling training classes and sessions and coordinate EMS training activities.
• Obtain equipment, space and resources to conduct effective training and produce instructional materials.
• Develop student evaluation tools and adapt materials based on QA/QI feedback.

Job description

The Clark County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the position of EMS Training Instructor. This position will be responsible for preparing, delivering, and evaluating public safety, supervisory and other training courses and classes which pertain to Emergency Medical Services, fire service, management, and supervision.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources.

Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

Candidates selected for interview shall be required to create and deliver a timed presentation using audiovisual equipment and devices, as well as participate in an oral interview.

EXAMINATION/SELECTION PROCESS:

Training Exercise and Presentation – 40%

Presentation & EMS Operations Procedure:

Candidates will have one hour to prepare a 10-minute PowerPoint training presentation and a one-page informational summary for crews to reference from a list of topics that are meant to reveal a candidate’s knowledge of EMS topics. They will be given 10 minutes to present said training and both components will be evaluated by the panel.

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to an Associate's Degree or 60 college credits in Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Management, Business Administration, Education, or related field (related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis) and one (1) year of full-time professional experience in providing training or instruction, preferably in a system delivering 911 emergency medical services; or,

Any employee with three (3) years continuous full-time professional experience at the Clark County Fire Department.

Certifications:

At the time of application must possess Paramedic certification and EMS Instructor I or higher. Candidates selected for this position will be required to obtain EMS Instructor II and BLS, ACLS, and PALS Instructor certifications within one (1) year of date of hire.

License:

Must possess a valid Class C Driver’s License at the time of appointment.

• Prepares, designs and delivers specialized training programs in the areas of emergency medical services and operations.

• Addresses needs based on QA/QI reviews and develops education to improve EMS knowledge and skills within the fire department.
