Job summary

A county government agency is seeking an Emergency Management Coordinator to oversee daily operations of its Emergency Management Division. This role involves developing and updating emergency plans, managing training programs, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders during emergencies. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily operations of the Emergency Management Division.
  • Develop and maintain Emergency Management plans.
  • Manage emergency management training and exercise programs.
  • Conduct training for personnel across various agencies.
  • Prepare quarterly performance reports for SCEMD.
  • Maintains Emergency Operations Center readiness and monitoring systems.
  • Represents division in meetings, conferences, and trainings.
  • Assesses disaster planning for partner agencies and facilities.
  • Manages countywide mass notification system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under limited supervision, coordinates the daily operations of the County’s Emergency Management Division. Coordinates with county departments and external stakeholders, and serves as a liaison with partner agencies during natural, manmade, or technological emergencies. Ensures the timely update of emergency plans and the effective use of available resources during disaster situations. Reports to the Director of Emergency Services and/or Assistant County Administrator

Typical Job Duties
  • Coordinates daily operations of the Emergency Management Division, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates Emergency Management plans for preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation.
  • Manages emergency management training and exercise programs in accordance with HSEEP standards.
  • Conducts training and educational programs for personnel across various agencies, including the public.
  • Prepares quarterly performance reports for SCEMD and the Local Emergency Management Performance Grant.
  • Maintains Emergency Operations Center readiness, including monitoring warning systems and maintaining emergency systems.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and training sessions to remain informed of best practices.
  • Develops, maintains, and evaluates disaster response plans specific to Georgetown County.
  • Assess emergency planning efforts for partner agencies and facilities.
  • Oversees the countywide mass notification system.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Knowledge

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant applications. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing conditions and prioritize tasks effectively.

Work is performed in both office and field settings, including emergency scenes and external facilities. Extended hours may be required during emergency operations. May involve exposure to severe weather conditions and high-stress situations.

Normal Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
On-Call Schedule: After-hours on-call rotation, as required
Physical Demands

Requires walking or standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Associate’s degree in Emergency Management or related field OR five or more years of experience in a public safety field.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Availability for on-call coverage.

  • Other applicable certifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management or related field.
