Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, three years of directly related experience, and possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage with the University of South Alabama. Current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification or must obtain within 6 months of employment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s department of Safety and Environmental Compliance is seeking to hire an Emergency Management & Safety Officer. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
- Performs safety observations and incident investigations, and serves as the University’s emergency mass notification system liaison to departments and service providers.
- Manages the University’s mass notification system platform and serves as the primary contact for access issues and training.
- Coordinates integration between mass notification system platform and digital media services.
- Manages and responds to department email account communications.
- Performs campus Hazard Vulnerability Assessments for safety and emergency plans.
- Investigates accident/ incident reports and initiates corrective action responses.
- Maintains department records archive system to include shared drive system.
- Assists with troubleshooting office computer systems and coordinates IT services as necessary.
- Monitors department mainline telecommunications and redirects accordingly.
- Works with Training Coordinator to create presentations, training programs, and emergency response plans.
- Maintains emergency call center service with service provider.
- Serves as the Safety Officer for the campus and other areas as designated by the Director.
- Maintains records of facilities inspections to include corrective action responses.
- Assists with student worker supervision and timekeeping.
- Researches technical federal, state, and industry safety and/or environmental regulations.
- Assists in the drafting and submission of new policies.
- Serves as a member of the University’s Incident Command System during campus events to include football games.
- Performs other assignments as necessary to protect the health and safety of the University community.
- Serves as the primary holder of the department’s purchasing card, reconciles credits and charges with monthly submission.
- Serves as the primary support for office operations to include minor accounting and administrative functions.
- Provides administrative and IT support to management and department staff.
- Provides support for all University of South Alabama locations, including USA Health system, and must be willing to travel to different campus locations.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
- Related duties as required.
