Job summary

Seattle Public Utilities seeks a Capital Projects Coordinator to support emergency contracting across SPU assets, coordinating scoping, design, contracting, and construction with multiple teams.

The role requires 3+ years in project/construction management and a bachelor’s degree in a related field. A hybrid work schedule and strong collaboration across departments are offered, with a City pension and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years in project or construction management, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • OR: A combination of education, training, certification, and experience that provides the necessary background to perform the role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage capital projects from initial scoping through design, contracting, construction, and closeout, ensuring schedule, budget, and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare scopes of work, select and manage consultants, and oversee design development, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate and secure required permits, and provide project information to stakeholders, the public, and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop project work plans, evaluate risks, communicate priorities, and support decision-making for governing bodies.
  • Administer public works construction contracts, including inspections, RFIs, submittals, change orders, claims, and daily documentation.
  • Review bids, negotiate contractor proposals, prepare cost estimates and collaborate with FAS on contract awards across multiple contracting methods.
  • Coordinate with City departments, agencies, contractors, businesses, and community members while promoting safety and making field decisions.
