Job summary

Animal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA) is hiring a Veterinary Assistant for daytime emergency and ICU coverage in West Caldwell, NJ. The role supports doctors and nurses, maintains clean, organized ER/ICU spaces, and participates in procedures and triage.

Compensation ranges from $20 to $24 per hour with a $2.50/hr weekend differential and a $5/hr overnight differential. Full benefits and growth opportunities are provided. Schedule is Sunday, Wednesday, Friday, 8:00am–8:00pm.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of veterinary technician or assistant experience.
• Knowledge of safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to calculate medication dosages and administer injections.
• English fluency required; additional languages a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures.
• Prepare ER/triage areas and assist with setup.
• Maintain cleanliness of ICU, ER, and surgery areas.
• Sterilize instruments and prepare surgical packs.
• Restrict and handle patients safely with care.
• Record accurate patient data in medical records.
• Provide home-care instructions to clients as directed.
• Cross-train and assist other departments.
