Job summary

City of Marion is seeking a qualified Communications Operator for the Marion Public Safety Communications Center. The role handles 911 and routine calls, entering data into CAD and dispatching first responders across police, fire, and EMS.

The ideal candidate is a certified Iowa dispatcher or has recent equivalent training, holds ILEA Telecommunicator certification, and is current on Iowa/NCIC; night, weekend, and holiday shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Certified Iowa public safety dispatcher or recently employed within 12 months with BIST and ILEA Telecommunicator training.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Answer 911 and routine calls via multi-line system; enter calls into CAD and dispatch responders.
• Interpret and prioritize information; relay to officers and other agencies as needed.
• Operate radios and monitor multiple channels; maintain calm under stress.
