Candidates should be prepared for a typing test and POST exam, with rotating shifts including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. A high school diploma and relevant experience are required or highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of the 12th grade or equivalent.
• Two years of general work experience involving frequent interactions with the public.
• Desirable: one year of dispatch experience in public safety or fast-paced setting.
• Desirable: one year of experience operating communications equipment.
• Possession of California POST Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course certificate.

Responsibilities

• Receive emergency calls and determine nature and priority of incidents.
• Dispatch appropriate units and maintain radio/Teletype communications.
• Maintain logs and perform clerical duties related to public safety operations.
• Type daily log of field calls and dispatched units.
• Be prepared to work rotating shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays.
• Test and inspect equipment as required.
