Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Nurse Aide for our Emergency Department team at Scotts Hill Medical Center. You will provide basic patient care under Nursing Leadership, support daily activities, and help ensure comfort and dignity for patients during their stay.

Requires Nurse Aide I and BLS certification, with prior ED or outpatient experience preferred. Ability to tailor care to age-specific needs and effective communication with the care team are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Nurse Aide I certification required; American Heart Association BLS required; Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Experience as Nurse Aide in emergency or outpatient settings highly desirable.
  • Ability to adapt care to patient age and needs.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care under Nursing Leadership supervision.
  • Document vitals and patient status timely.
  • Assist with ambulation, mobility and fall-prevention practices.
  • Support care plans and communicate observations to nurses and providers.
  • Create a calm, supportive environment for patients and families.

  • Schedule: PRN, As Needed, Day Shift or Night Shift
  • Department: Emergency Room (ED)
  • Location: Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Center
What You'll Do

Works under the direct supervision of Nursing Leadership. Performs a variety of basic patient care activities in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. Is also responsible for completing a variety of department specific tasks to assist with optimal department safety and functioning.

  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care by using your clinical experience to anticipate needs, support daily activities, and promote comfort and dignity throughout each patient’s stay.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to nurses and providers, using your seasoned judgment to share meaningful observations, support care plans, and help the team stay aligned in a fast-paced environment.
  • Guide safe mobility and recovery efforts, drawing on your expertise to assist with ambulation, repositioning, and fall-prevention practices that keep patients progressing safely.
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation of vitals and patient status, contributing reliable information that strengthens communication and supports excellent clinical decision-making.
  • Foster a calm, supportive environment for patients and families, using your experience to offer reassurance, set expectations, and help others feel grounded during challenging moments.
What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience: Nurse Aide experience. Experience in basic patient care, phlebotomy, EKG in an emergency or outpatient setting highly desirable, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Nurse Aide I, required. American Heart Association BLS required. Some departments have additional advanced CPR requirements as listed on staff annual education record, required. Phlebotomy Certification, preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required): Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s) age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
  • Additional Skills (preferred): Knowledge of medical terminology.
