Job summary

Nebraska Methodist Health System in Council Bluffs, IA is seeking a nursing assistant or medical assistant or EMT program graduate to support patient care in the hospital setting. You will greet patients, assist with basic care, monitor vital signs, and support nurses to deliver quality care.

This afternoon/evening position is 36 hours per week (11a–11p), with every third weekend and rotating holidays. BLS is preferred and CNA/EMT certification is welcomed, with opportunities to participate in

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent knowledge in medical terminology and office functions.
• Graduation from a nursing assistant, medical assistant, EMT program or completion of 2 years of a BSN preferred.
• Current American Heart Association BLS strongly preferred at time of hire and required within 3 months.
• CNA or EMT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promotes positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers and co-workers.
• Greet, smiles and eye contact; introduce self by name and assist co-workers and patients as needed.
• Demonstrates ability to obtain and monitor patient vital signs including temperature, BP, pulse, respirations and SpO2.
• Assists with basic patient care and monitoring as directed by nursing staff.
• Takes reports from other departments and relays information to the nurse on duty.
• Performs phlebotomy if trained as a phlebotomy technician.
• Assists with department equipment and environment cleaning and prepares rooms for next patient.
• Assists with orientation, training new personnel, and Performance Improvement.
