Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking an Emergency Department Tech who combines Patient Care Technician (CNA) and Monitor Technician duties, providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

You will support nursing and physician staff, manage supplies in the department, perform phlebotomy, splinting, Point of Care testing, wound care, and monitor patient cardiac rhythms, alerting RNs to changes; you’ll also perform Patient Flow Coordinator duties.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • NA-C Nursing Assistant certification and MA-R credential.
  • EKG certification required within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication; PC proficiency.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As our Emergency Department Tech, you will have the duties and responsibilities of both the Patient Care Technician (C.N.A) and Monitor Technician, including other specific responsibilities outlined below. You will provide direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Every day you will provide support to nursing and physician staff by performing tasks and procedures that assist in the care and treatment of patients with illnesses and injuries. Additionally, you will organize, replace, and maintain inventory and supply levels in the department.

To be successful in this role, you will perform phlebotomy, splinting, Point of Care, and wound care interventions, supporting the work of nursing, EKG, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and respiratory therapy staff. You will also provide on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors, giving RNs immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms and/or vital signs, and perform Patient Flow Coordinator duties in the Emergency Department.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant (NA-C), and must maintain a Registered Medical Assistant (MA-R) credential
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) certification - must pass an EKG validation test within ninety (90) days of hire and annually thereafter to ensure competency
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of and demonstrated skill in recognizing abnormal cardiac rhythms
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, diagnostic tests/procedures, and medications
  • Ability to work independently and respond appropriately in stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in using personal computer
  • Ability to assertively advocate for patient safety, by communicating the urgency of patient instability through monitoring of vital signs and rhythm changes from the monitor screens

Pay Range

$29.82 - $45.63 / hour
