Job summary

Tufts Medicine invites an experienced Physician Assistant to join the Emergency department. You will perform initial evaluations, order tests, and coordinate care under physician supervision, delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include developing care plans, collaborating with the healthcare team, and ensuring accurate documentation while guiding less experienced staff when needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program.
• PA licensure within the first three months of membership.
• Physician’s Assistant Certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Manages broad spectrum of patients and conducts clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Assesses health status via histories, exams, labs; diagnoses acute/chronic diseases.
• Assesses psychosocial needs and learning barriers during admission.
• Examines patient records to recognize problems; consults with physician.
• Develops individualized care plans with standards of care.
• Communicates professionally with patients, families, and staff.
• Sets priorities and consults MD as needed; triage when needed.
• Orders labs and radiology based on assessment.
• Maintains patient records and documentation.
• Demonstrates appropriate prescribing habits.
• Encourages preventative medicine through education.
• Interprets patient needs to other clinicians for coordination.
• Collaborates with physician to manage cost-effective care.
• May orient/train new PAs and coordinate schedules.
• May participate in rounds and handle emergencies during hours.
