Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System is seeking an ED Access Representative to register patients in the Raeford, NC emergency department. You will collect demographics, insurance information, and create patient records with accurate data entry.

Responsibilities include verifying insurance eligibility, communicating patient liabilities, and collecting co-pays at discharge while maintaining privacy and safety. Strong communication and multitasking skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College courses in business, medical office administration, health care administration, and/or computer technology preferred.
  • 2 years insurance/clerical experience in a hospital or medical office setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Register emergency service patients quickly, creating accounts within 90 seconds of arrival.
  • Enter accurate demographics to obtain patient records and account numbers.
  • Place patient armbands after accounts are created for safety.
  • Obtain demographic, guarantor and insurance information and document in the system.
  • Verify insurance eligibility/benefits using EDI and document in the system.
  • Inform patient/guarantor of liabilities and collect co-pays, co-insurances, deductibles, and deposits at discharge.
  • Provide coverage of assigned work area and support clinical partners as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Completes the registration process for emergency patients and direct admits sent to the emergency department. Collects patient liabilities upon discharge from the emergency department.Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below.
