As an emergency veterinary technician, you will use critical thinking and leadership skills to execute patient treatment plans in collaboration with the veterinary team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide compassionate care to patients and clients.
  • Perform nursing care, patient monitoring, and treatments.
  • Conduct physical assessments and triage patients based on understanding of diseases and conditions.
  • Administer medications and manage fluid therapies.
  • Assist with outpatient and inpatient care, participate in rounds, and perform diagnostic tests.
  • Maintain skills in CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer.
  • Handle sample collection, diagnostic testing, and imaging.
  • Perform nursing tasks such as catheter placements and oxygen therapy setup.

Veterinary technicians also perform advanced procedures, including anesthesia management, vascular access, ultrasonography, treatment planning, and team coaching, with opportunities for further training and specialization.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Credentialing as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT).
  • 1+ years of veterinary technician experience, preferably in emergency or specialty medicine.
  • Strong communication skills and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, kneel, lift up to 25 kg independently, and support heavier loads with assistance.
