Job summary

The City of Atlanta is seeking a Communications Dispatcher to perform radio and telecommunication duties for the Atlanta Police Department. You will answer 911 and non-emergency lines, coordinate with police, EMS, and fire units, and maintain logs and records.

The role requires calmness under pressure, strong English communication, and the ability to work varied shifts. GCIC and POST certifications are preferred, with training provided after appointment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• GCIC certification and POST certification preferred; within six months after appointment.
• Must pass a dispatcher performance test.
• Willing to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to communicate clearly and calmly under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Handle multiple tasks simultaneously in stressful situations.
• Answer and route 911 calls within jurisdiction.
• Maintain field unit status and safety for responders.
• Dispatch emergency calls for Fire Rescue and provide communications support.
• Provide directions and information to the public.
