Job summary

ChristianaCare in Wilmington is seeking an Emergency Care Technician to assist in the Emergency Department, performing hygiene, comfort measures, phlebotomy and selected nursing tasks under supervision, and acquiring vital signs and EKGs.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous work experience or completion of Patient Care Technician and/or Phlebotomist programs.

• Responds to patient crises and initiates interventions within RN scope; performs venipuncture and finger sticks.
• Performs unit-specific tasks under RN direction, e.g. EKGs, height and weight measurements.
• Reviews orders and sends lab specimens using PowerChart.

Our Wilmington Emergency Department houses a Level III Trauma Center. We seek an Emergency Care Technician to care for patients in our Emergency Department.

About this Position

Under nursing, the Emergency Care Tech's primary function is to perform hygiene/comfort measures and selected nursing and phlebotomy procedures for patients under the supervision and direction of the professional nurse. Acquiring vital signs and performing EKG's are also required. We seek someone who can demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult & geriatric patients. Should demonstrate the ability to obtain information and identify patient needs and provide care as needed.

Hours

This is a Full-Time Flex position / 72 hours per bi-weekly pay

Various shifts are available and will be discussed during the interview

There is a weekend rotation (every other weekend) and a holiday rotation requirement (1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday if you work a 12-hour shift).

Duties Include

• Performs assigned nursing procedures that pertain to the comfort and well-being of patients.
• Responds to patient crisis situations and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.Performs venipuncture and finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
• Performs essential unit specific tasks under the direction of RN, e.g. EKGs, height and weight measurements
• Reviews orders placed for patient testing and sends lab specimens using PowerChart system.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous work experience or completion of Patient Care Technician and/or Phlebotomist programs.

Hourly Pay Range

Hourly Pay Range: $20.24 - $30.36

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
