Job summary

Christiana Care Health System in Middletown seeks an Emergency Care Technician for our Free-Standing Emergency Department serving the Middletown-Odessa-Townsend area. The ED operates 24/7 with board-certified physicians and nurses, on-site lab and imaging, and a helipad for aero-medical transport.

Under supervision of a nurse, you will perform hygiene and comfort measures, phlebotomy, vital signs, and selected nursing tasks. Prior PCT/Phlebotomy training is preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience or completion of Patient Care Technician and/or Phlebotomist programs.

Responsibilities

• Performs assigned nursing procedures for patient comfort and well-being.
• Responds to patient crises and assists RN as needed.
• Performs venipuncture and finger sticks under safety policies.
• Performs EKGs, height and weight measurements as directed.
• Reviews orders and processes lab specimens using the PowerChart system.

The state-of-the-art full-service emergency department features

• 18 treatment rooms.
• Staffing by board-certified emergency physicians and emergency nurses 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week.
• Serving the most frequent emergency care needs.
• Dedicated on-site laboratory with walk-in hours from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Dedicated imaging services.

Work in an Emergency Department with a helipad with aero-medical transport capabilities! The Emergency Department is a participating trauma hospital in the Delaware Trauma System.

Under nursing, the primary function is to perform hygiene/comfort measures and selected nursing and phlebotomy procedures for patients under the supervision and direction of the professional nurse. Acquiring vital signs and performing EKG's are also required. We seek someone who can demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult & geriatric patients. Should demonstrate the ability to obtain information and identify patient needs and provide care as needed.

Duties Include

• Performs assigned nursing procedures that pertain to the comfort and well-being of patients.
• Responds to patient crisis situations and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
• Performs venipuncture and finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
• Performs essential unit specific tasks under the direction of RN, e.g. EKGs, height and weight measurements.
• Reviews orders placed for patient testing and sends lab specimens using PowerChart system.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous work experience or completion of Patient Care Technician and/or Phlebotomist programs.

Shift/Hours

• 72 hours per pay period
• 11a-11p
• Every third weekend (12 hour shifts on the weekends)
• CCHS holiday rotation

Hourly Pay Range

$20.24 - $30.36

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
