Job summary

UPMC Western Behavioral Health in McKeesport, PA, is seeking a full-time Behavioral Health Navigator I to support the UPMC McKeesport Emergency Department. You will assess and navigate patients and families with attending psychiatrists, and develop initial treatment plans to facilitate disposition and bed placement.

The incumbent will work three 12-hour rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and overnights, with weekends and holidays. Parking on site is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work, or master's with 12 credits in human services and/or mental health experience.
• One year of mental health direct care experience OR master's degree with applicable coursework in the field.

Responsibilities

• Meet standards for documentation and complete required paperwork including psychiatric evaluation and commitment paperwork.
• Demonstrate ability to use DSM-5 and develop provisional diagnoses.
• Knowledge of mental health laws and inpatient commitment reviews for accuracy and timeliness.
• Obtain authorizations and understand insurance programs as needed.
• Participate in interdisciplinary activities and meetings.
• Maintain competency requirements and stay updated with delivery of patient care for assessment and disposition planning.
• Handle a high volume of calls and coordinate dispositions efficiently.
• Follow outpatient scheduling or referral documentation guidelines.
