Position Overview:
The purpose of a Surgical Technician Assistant is to assist the surgery technicians, assistants and doctors in a variety of ways including restraint, diagnostics, and OR cleaning/turning over. This position is to assist us in improving the quality of care given to the patients at IndyVet and to aid in achieving greater efficiency by relieving the team of technical work and administrative detail.
Responsibilities:
· Restrain for various procedures, treatments and exams
· Prepare lab samples for outgoing laboratories
· Discharging patients (drop offs only)
· Autoclave maintenance
· Assist Doctor with morning exams on hospitalized patients
· Prepare patient for discharge- IVC removal, clean, owner items, etc.
· Clean kennels when patients are discharged
· Preparing kennels and VetRadar sheets for drop off patients the night before
· Assist with patient treatments as directed by your head tech
· Check on all surgery patients during downtime
· Help with end of day duties and checklists
· Clean the radiology suite/CT suite between patients
· Running in house bloodwork (machines only)
· Assisting with radiographs
· Setting up/flipping ORs
· Cleaning up following procedures
· Cleaning and sterilization of surgical packs
· Documenting any client communication as needed
· Collecting and returning patients from exam rooms
· Filling oral prescriptions
· Maintain cleanliness in all surgery areas
· Completing body care for deceased pets
· General cleaning, stocking and laundry
Schedule:
Monday- Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
· Assist with ER during downtime
Requirements:
· Previous experience at a small animal hospital
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Self-motivation
· Attention to detail
· Able to lift up to 50+ lbs without assistance.
· Able to stand and sit for exceeded periods of time
· Able to constantly lift, bend and handle heavy objects on occasion.
· Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
· Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g. face masks, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed. Willingness to work overnights, some weekends, and some holidays
· Ability to work successfully independently, as well as on a team
· Flexible with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
· Demonstrates a sense of urgency
· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
· Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner
· Ability to understand some medical terminology as it applies to their duties
· Prioritization and time management skills
· Working quickly without compromising quality
· Excellent client service skills and phone etiquette
· Fear Free certified
· High school degree

Compensation: $16.00 to $19.00 base pay depending on experience level and credential
