Job summary

Amentum's Space Exploration Division seeks an EMC Engineer to support the ES3 RF, E3 & GN&C Branch for aerospace hardware. You will perform EMC analysis and plan tests.

Qualifications include a BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Science from an ABET‑accredited program with 5–10 years of relevant experience; familiarity with MIL‑STD‑461/462/464 is required. Excellent knowledge of MATLAB, HFSS/FEKO, and lab equipment; ability to document results and work with cross‑functional teams; U.S.

Qualifications

  • BS degree from ABET-accredited program in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Science.
  • 5–10 years of applicable experience in EMC for space or flight hardware.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461, -462, -464 or equivalent specs.
  • Proficiency with common operating systems and Microsoft Office; US Citizenship and STAR ID required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform EMC analysis, define requirements, plan tests, and analyze circuits for space hardware.
  • Evaluate test data and waivers for EMI, ESD, corona, grounding, and bonding.
  • Prepare inputs for project documentation and verify/validate requirements.
  • Contribute to reports and trade studies as part of the Space Systems team.

The EMC Engineer will provide Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) engineering support to the ES31 RF, E3 & GN&C Branch of the Space Systems Department in the Engineering Directorate for the area ofaerospace/avionics, space hardware applications, etc.

The E3 support provided will include EMC analysis, requirement definition, test planning, and circuit test and analysis.Candidate should have experience in EMC analysis, EMC test planning and procedures, and critical circuit test and analysis as related to space or flight hardware and systems. Experience in evaluating test and analysis data and waivers in the areas of electromagnetic interference (EMI), electrostatic discharge, corona, grounding, isolation, bonding, and wiring is a plus.In addition, this individual will have the opportunity to prepare inputs to, or assist in development of:

  • Project documentation
  • Requirement verification
  • Requirement validation
  • Presentation and trade study reports/packages
Qualifications

BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Science from a ABET accredited institution with 5-10 years applicable experience is required. Familiarity with MIL-STD-461, -462, -464 or equivalent specifications is required. Must be proficient with common computer operating systems and Microsoft Office software programs. Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.

Proficiency with:

  • Mathematical Analyses (MATLAB, MathCAD, Excel)
  • Analysis Tools (spice software and electromagnetic simulation software such as High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) , FEKO or equivalent)
  • Operational knowledge of EMI Lab Test Equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators)
  • Familiarity with Programming Languages (C, Visual Basic).
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to perform technical tasks independently is required.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance:

Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
