Description

Under the general direction of the Laboratory Supervisor or Director, the Embryologist III performs advanced technical clinical and research duties independently in the embryology laboratory. They interact directly with physicians and demonstrate the ability to use their own judgment in making decisions regarding lab procedures. The role involves interfacing with the research and andrology components of the IVF Program to advance laboratory technologies. The Embryologist III includes daily oversight and training of embryologists, focusing on ensuring quality outcomes and an excellent patient experience.

The Embryologist III collaborates closely with the Laboratory Director, Supervisor, other team members, and employees from different departments.

Essential Responsibilities include demonstrating independent proficiency and competency in performing procedures such as:

  1. Conducting the full range of basic and advanced Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) laboratory procedures.
  2. Preparing serum/media with accuracy and attention to detail.
  3. Preparing sperm for ICSI and conventional insemination.
  4. Performing egg retrievals and cumulus cell removal.
  5. Performing both conventional and ICSI inseminations, meeting established fertilization goals.
  6. Completing fertilization checks for insemination methods.
  7. Embryo grading to select embryos for transfer, meeting goals set by the Lab Director, including proficiency testing.
  8. Embryo warming and transfers, measured by pregnancy rates.
  9. Egg and embryo vitrification with meticulous attention; proficiency measured by recovery and survival rates.
  10. Conducting advanced IVF procedures (ICSI, embryo biopsy, tubing, vitrification, warming).
  11. Performing daily quality control activities.
  12. Ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  13. Maintaining the laboratory environment, equipment, and inventory control.
  14. Complying with regulations and laws for human ART, adhering to policies, procedures, and ASRM standards.
  15. Collaborating with the Lab Director and team to identify best practices and improvement areas.
  16. Following SOPs and safety policies meticulously.
  17. Meeting quality standards and procedural goals.
  18. Consulting with physicians as needed.
  19. Ensuring adequate supplies and assisting with ordering.
  20. Performing other duties as assigned.
  21. The Embryologist III is capable of working autonomously, managing weekend workload, and responding to alarms as needed.

    Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Reproductive Biology, or Animal Science required.
  • Meeting CAP requirements for biology and chemistry hours.
  • Technical Supervisor (TS) certification preferred.
  • State-specific licensure requirements, if applicable.
  • 5 years’ experience in an IVF lab, strongly preferred.
  • Completion of at least 30 supervised procedures for new skills and 20 independent procedures.

Salary: $120k - $140k plus up to 10% annual bonus potential.
