Base pay range

$105,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr

eNGINE is seeking an experienced Embedded Systems QA Engineer to join one of our Pittsburgh-based clients in a primarily remote capacity. Must live in the Pittsburgh, PA area as this role will require some in-office lab time on occasion.

You will be responsible for defining, executing, automating, and maintaining high-quality test plans and test cases, ensuring products meet stringent regulatory, safety, and performance requirements. This role requires strong technical competence, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead software testing activities for assigned projects and provide ongoing status updates.
  • Test embedded software running on safety-critical medical devices and related applications.
  • Design, execute, maintain, and review detailed test plans and test cases.
  • Validate that software design meets all specified requirements while ensuring full requirements-to-test traceability.
  • Identify, document, and communicate risks throughout the software development lifecycle; collaborate cross-functionally to mitigate issues.
  • Point out ambiguities or gaps in requirements before development begins.
  • Generate comprehensive defect reports and partner with developers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Facilitate cross-functional reviews of defects, test plans, and test cases.
  • Provide accurate test-effort estimates for backlog items and project deliverables.
  • Participate in program, design, and documentation reviews.
  • Adhere to established release schedules, regulatory guidelines, and documentation standards.
  • Monitor test automation results; contribute to the development and maintenance of automated test scripts.
  • Maintain technical and professional knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and engaging with professional communities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field — or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant QA experience, ideally supporting embedded or safety-critical systems.
  • Proven experience performing the responsibilities outlined above in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with Linux OS file systems.
  • Experience testing web services using tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or Swagger.
  • Strong technical communication skills, including the ability to interpret highly complex documents and present findings to diverse audiences.
  • Solid mathematical abilities, including interpreting tabular data, graphs, and basic statistical concepts.
  • Advanced reasoning and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to evaluate multiple variables and determine optimal solutions.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
What You’ll Do
  • Design, implement, debug, test, and document embedded software running on microprocessors in bare‑metal, embedded, or RTOS environments.
  • Create and maintain unit, integration, and system tests.
  • Lead and support software quality initiatives including code reviews, design reviews, planning, and release activities.
  • Troubleshoot complex field issues and provide corrective fixes.
  • Support sustaining engineering efforts and drive corrective action processes.
  • Research new components, tools, technologies, and methodologies; build prototypes and recommend solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement related to tools, processes, and engineering best practices.
