Job summary

Coats is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, develop, and maintain embedded software powering our automotive service equipment, while owning PCB design for control boards using Altium. This hands-on, hybrid role works directly with tire changers, wheel balancers and related equipment from concept through production and field support.

You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical and manufacturing teams to ensure performance, reliability and quality under real-world operating conditions,

Qualifications

• Embedded software development experience for hardware control.
• PCB design experience with Altium Designer.
• Real-time machine control experience and hardware background.
• C/C++ for embedded or Windows-based machine control apps.
• Hands-on ability with schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Experience with version control and issue tracking tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, debug, and test embedded firmware and software for automotive service machines.
• Interface software with sensors, motors, and control hardware for real-time behavior.
• Own PCB design for embedded control boards – schematic capture, layout, documentation.
• Generate fabrication and production drawings to support PCB manufacture.
• Select components and support BOM generation with sourcing and manufacturing.
• Conduct hands-on testing on machines and control boards on shop floor and lab.
• Lead board- and component-level testing through development and post-production.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering on form factor and assembly.
• Participate in code and design reviews; support DFMEA/PFMEA practices.
• Ensure embedded software and PCB designs meet performance and reliability standards.
