Abbott is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Vascular R&D team in St. Paul, MN, contributing to the design, development and testing of next-generation intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) systems.

The role blends embedded electronics, firmware, automation, and experimental test systems, collaborating closely with electrical, software, mechanical, and systems engineers, as well as clinical, quality, manufacturing, and regulatory partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of hands-on engineering experience in embedded systems, firmware, or hardware-software integrated systems.
  • Experience with embedded firmware development in C/C++ (ARM-based MCUs).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an experimental, systems-level mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of intravascular lithotripsy equipment and catheter systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, develop prototypes, and plan and execute experiments.
  • Design, build, and iterate on custom laboratory and automated test systems, including embedded controllers, motion or actuation elements, and data acquisition.
  • Develop and debug embedded firmware and supporting software for test and characterization platforms.
  • Participate in circuit board design, bring-up, modification, and debug, working with other electrical engineers.
  • Collect, review, and interpret experimental data; prepare technical summaries and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to DHF documentation.
