Job summary

FIRST RF in Boulder is hiring an Embedded Systems Engineer to design and develop active RF systems. You will contribute to software, firmware, and gate-ware for next-generation products, with emphasis on Linux and HDL. Collaboration across hardware, RF, and mechanical teams is essential.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, U.S. citizenship for security clearance, and 10% travel. You will work on FPGA logic, embedded Linux for SoC platforms, and high-speed interfaces.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proficiency reading electrical schematics.
• Experience with HDL and DSP blocks; signal processing fundamentals.
• Experience with Linux user-space and kernel driver development.
• Experience with embedded Linux build systems.
• Familiarity with RF test equipment and high-speed interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and verify FPGA logic using HDL.
• Develop embedded software for onboard processors, supporting bare-metal and embedded Linux.
• Build, customize, and deploy embedded Linux systems for SoC platforms.
• Perform simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, and hardware validation.
• Implement and optimize high-speed communication protocols.
• Conduct board bring-up and hardware-software co-debugging with test equipment.
• Collaborate across hardware, firmware, and software teams to deliver integrated solutions.
