Job summary

5V Video is seeking an Embedded Linux Software Technical Lead to drive our multi-platform STB software stack. You will work hands-on in kernel and drivers, while steering the technical direction for the platform team and coordinating with SoC and OEM vendors.

You will own the development process, mentor engineers, and guide cross-system bug triage from kernel to userspace. The role requires senior/lead experience and strong Linux internal knowledge.

Qualifications

• Experience with embedded Linux development including drivers, IPC and networking.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams on multi-platform projects.
• Strong background in kernel and driver integration and platform bring-up.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and maintenance of the STB software stack.
• Own low-level platform work — bootloader porting, kernel and driver integration.
• Port the stack across architectures (MIPS, ARM, IA32) and SoC platforms.
• Build and maintain native middleware and device porting layer on RDK-Video.
• Drive performance improvements across embedded systems and CI/CD pipelines.
• Lead triage and resolve cross-system issues from kernel to userspace.
• Mentor engineers and own software development processes (code review, CI, releases).
• Manage day-to-day technical relationships with SoC, OEM and ODM vendors.
• Step in as Scrum Master when needed.

Ever wondered what it actually takes to lead the software behind millions of set-top boxes?

We're hiring an Embedded Linux Software Technical Lead to drive our multi-platform Digital TV / STB software stack, built on Yocto and RDK-Video. This is a hands-on role; you'll be down in the kernel and drivers one minute, and steering technical direction for the platform team the next. You'll own the dev process, work directly with SoC and OEM vendors, and be the person the team turns to when the cross-system bugs get gnarly.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading design, development and maintenance of our STB software stack
• Owning low-level platform work — bring-up, bootloader porting, kernel and driver integration
• Porting the stack across architectures (MIPS, ARM, IA32) and SoC platforms
• Building and maintaining native middleware and the device porting layer on RDK-Video
• Driving performance improvements across the embedded system and CI/CD pipelines

What you'll bring:

• Expertise in C/C++ development for embedded systems, with senior/technical-lead experience
• Proven track record leading and mentoring engineering teams on complex, multi-platform projects
• Expert knowledge of Linux internals and hands-on embedded Linux development (drivers, IPC, networking, containerisation)
• Experience porting software/drivers across multiple architectures
• Expert-level OpenEmbedded/Yocto and RDK software stack knowledge
• Strong CI/CD experience — ideally owning build, integration, and verification automation
• Comfortable working at the hardware level (oscilloscope, schematics, signal analysis)
• Solid grounding in networking (TCP/IP, WiFi, QoS/NAT/security) and storage/filesystems for embedded systems

Nice to have: DVB standards, DOCSIS/cable-modem integration, DVR engine development, ARM/SH4 assembler, Scrum Master experience.
