Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. seeks an Embedded Software Engineering Specialist at its Alpharetta, GA facility to lead design and development of Telematics software for Caterpillar machines.

You will drive technical delivery, define requirements, and mentor teams across global units while mastering embedded software languages and lifecycle management. Requirements include a master’s degree (or 5 years with a bachelor’s) and hands-on experience with Linux, Telematics, design patterns, unit tests, UML tools

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in CS/IT/SE or related field with 2 years as software architect or team lead.
  • Alternatively, Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT/SE with 5 years as software architect or team lead.
  • Experience with Linux; embedded controls for Telematics in heavy machinery or automotive.
  • Strong knowledge of design patterns, unit tests and TDD; UML tools like Rhapsody; GIT.

Responsibilities

  • Act as principal contributor and manage development of embedded software products or processes.
  • Communicate customer needs, design concepts, and drive technical delivery across teams worldwide.
  • Define software requirements, perform validation, conduct design and code reviews, and guide technology strategy.

Caterpillar Inc. seeks Embedded Software Engineering Specialist at its facility located at Alpharetta Georgia EPD Plant, 4955 Marconi Drive, Alpharetta, GA 30005.

Act as principal contributor on design or CPPD team and manage the development of a product, process or both. Develop solutions for complex technical software engineering problems. Accountable for the design/improvement of complex systems or processes. Demonstrate technical expertise and serve as a team/project leader focused on technical delivery. Develop and perform on complex projects or programs. Direct work with other units, suppliers, customers, and teams. Decisions may have far-reaching impact on project teams, immediate workgroup, division, business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and Caterpillar markets. Communicate conceptual design, understand customer needs and product applications, and master embedded software languages, software development tools, software architecture, configuration management, and lifecycle management. Focus on technical contributions and project management. Design and promote new products and processes, help establish strategies for new process and product programs, manage projects or program according to plans, perform requirements analysis, and create innovative solutions to meet customer needs. Evaluate new products, maintain existing products, communicate technology to customers, team members, suppliers, and other units, and support and advise engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers, and suppliers. Manage personal development, stay current with new technologies including emerging technologies such as AUTOSAR or create new technologies, continuous integration and build, native simulation, and automated testing. Define acceptance criteria, new product introduction processes, conceptual design, practical application of theory, and application of the NPI process. Develop Telematics onboard monitoring software used in Electronic Controller Modules for Caterpillar machines and engine applications. Work with the Telematics System team and software development teams to define software requirements and validation details. Provide upfront design guidance for software feature work, conduct design and code reviews, and lead software technology strategy and roadmap creation. Maintain extensive interaction with Telematics systems engineers and software development teams globally.

REQS: This position requires a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related field and 2 years of experience as a software architect or team lead for a cross-functional development team or related occupation. Alternatively, will accept a bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related field and 5 years of experience as a software architect or team lead for a cross functional development team or related occupation.

Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Linux; (2) Embedded controls development for Telematics applications in heavy machinery or automotive industry to gather data and remotely monitoring assets; (3) Design Patterns in software development; (4) Developing Unit Tests and Test-Driven Development; (5) UML Tools like Rhapsody in developing designs through UML diagrams; (6) Ubuntu; (7) CAN, J1939, TCP/IP OR other data link protocols; (8) CAN based tools like CANoe and CANalyzer; and (9) GIT configuration management tool.

Summary Pay Range:

$152,131.00 - $192,710.00 per year

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
