Job summary

Medela is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design and develop firmware for microcontroller-based medical devices in a regulated development environment. You will collaborate with electrical, systems, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure safe, effective products.

The role focuses on Embedded C/C++, device drivers, HALs, bootloaders and diagnostics, with RTOS or bare-metal systems. This hybrid role is based in McHenry, IL with onsite 3 days and a starting salary of

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
• Experience with Embedded C/C++ for microcontrollers.
• Experience with UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, BLE, Wi-Fi, MQTT.
• Experience with RTOS or bare-metal systems and debugging.
• Experience with version control (Git/Azure DevOps/Jira).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for MCU-based medical devices.
• Create and maintain drivers, HALs, bootloaders, diagnostics, and production test software.
• Support board bring-up and hardware/software integration, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Develop communication interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, BLE, Wi-Fi, MQTT).
• Participate in software architecture, requirements, verification, DHF traceability.
• Execute unit, integration, regression, and system testing.
• Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements throughout the lifecycle.
