Job summary

Waymo LLC is offering a hybrid internship in Mountain View focusing on embedded software for the Waymo driver. You will work on high-reliability on-vehicle firmware and off-vehicle simulation tooling, with direct impact on safety-critical software.

Applicants should be enrolled in BS or MS programs in computer science, computer engineering, or related fields, and demonstrate a strong foundation in C/C++, Linux, and Python.

Qualifications

• Strong programming foundation in C or C++, with memory management and data structures.
• Familiarity with Linux development environments, command-line tools, and Git.
• Demonstrated problem-solving, debugging skills, and comfort with evolving platforms or prototypes.
• Hands-on experience in Embedded Systems and Real-Time Programming, including microcontrollers or RTOS.
• Open Source contributions or active involvement in student engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality C/C++ software for on-vehicle firmware and off-vehicle tooling.
• Contribute to bring-up, validation, and debugging of new compute platforms and hardware interfaces.
• Write unit tests (e.g., gTest) and SIL fixtures to validate edge cases and robustness.
• Analyze field data logs and telemetry to identify root causes and improve firmware performance.
• Collaborate in cross-functional reviews and design discussions within the embedded team.
