Job summary

Blue River Technology seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to develop and maintain embedded software and systems for computer vision-enabled robotics. You will work on a high-density compute platform, enhancing camera interfaces and real-time performance in a Linux/Yocto environment.

You will build driver and regression tests, participate in design reviews, and help ensure robust, low-latency software for autonomous agricultural equipment. Visa sponsorship is available; Santa Clara, CA location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/CE or related field required.
• 1-3 years' embedded software development experience.
• Experience with cameras/sensors and interfaces (MIPI CSI-2).
• Strong testing/CI practices and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with real-time programming and Linux environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop, debug, and maintain embedded software and kernels in C/C++ and Rust.
• Improve camera/sensor capabilities and image quality; support data collection.
• Ensure Yocto OS support for sensors is implemented.
• Create automated driver and camera tests in CI on HIL platforms.
• Lead design/code reviews; troubleshoot driver issues with cross-functional teams.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and debug new and existing software applications, kernels, and device drivers for impactful robotics computing in C/C++ and Rust within a Linux environment.
• Enhance camera and sensor capabilities, image quality, and exposure configuration; support training data collection operations.
• Ensure OS (Yocto) support is implemented properly for sensors.
• Build automated driver and camera regression tests that run in continuous integration on hardware-in-the-loop platforms.
• Conduct embedded design reviews and code reviews, providing guidance to resolve difficult driver bugs which may require extensive troubleshooting.
• Implement embedded design best practices and methodologies to ensure high performance and reliability, with a strong emphasis on real-time programming considerations.

Required Experience and Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 1-3 years of experience developing embedded software.
• Familiarity with cameras/other sensors and camera interfaces (e.g., MIPI CSI-2).
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on testing and continuous integration practices.
• Knowledge of real-time systems and performance optimization techniques.

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Camera and camera interface testing, including performance testing under physical conditions such as shock/vibe, EMI, and temperature.
• Expertise in Linux kernel device driver development and tuning real-time applications for low latency.
• Experience in development on ARM platforms (NVIDIA Jetson) and Linux (Yocto, meta-tegra) embedded systems.
• V4L2 camera driver expertise.
• Experience with NVIDIA driver development.
• Experience building or maintaining continuous integration pipelines for embedded software.
• Middleware experience, particularly with pub/sub architectures.

Compensation and Benefits

At Blue River, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected pay range is between $122,000 - $183,000/year for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus and a competitive benefit package. During the recruitment process, we may identify an alternative role or level to which you are more suited.
