Hubbell's Boonton, NJ location seeks an Embedded Software (Firmware) Engineer to join our R&D group that develops complex embedded software for the electric utility market.

The role focuses on Linux/RTOS-based development for embedded microprocessor systems, with hands-on C programming, debugging, and hardware interfacing. You will work in a fast-paced environment delivering secure, robust solutions for critical infrastructure and industrial applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
• 3+ years of embedded firmware/software programming experience.
• Experience with embedded microprocessor-based design and interfacing to analog/digital devices.
• C programming for embedded systems with various IDEs for development and debug.
• Strong understanding of real-time systems, interrupts, threads, scheduling, semaphores, and state machines (with or without RTOS).
• Knowledge of Ethernet, I2C, RS232, RS485/422, SPI, BLE networks.

Job Overview

Hubbell's Boonton, NJ location is looking for an Embedded Software (Firmware) Engineer to join our R&D group that develops complex embedded software products for the electric utility market.

The Embedded Software Engineer designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs products for enhancements and new products. The individual should be a strong Linux developer capable of architecting and implementing highly complex embedded software in higher-level languages for embedded microprocessor-based systems. The individual must have proven track record for Linux/RTOS-based development, experience with programming languages, with ability to use in-circuit emulators as well as source code level debugging tools.

A Day In The Life

• Work with development team to identify the unit testing needs.


• Perform critical evaluation of software requirements, designs, and implementation. Identify design weakness and come up with effective test coverage accordingly.


• Develop test strategy to cover software designs by using various testing methodologies like white box testing and unit testing.


• Participate in development and validation of in-house or Off-the-Shelf testing tools for software unit testing.


• Create a framework for white box testing or unit testing.


• Follow SSDLC and best coding practices.


• Willing to work in a fast-paced, goal-oriented product development environment.


• Help with requirements breakdown analysis as required.


• Deliver secure robust embedded systems for both critical infrastructure and industrial system applications.


• Deliver new and creative solutions to complex problems

What will help you thrive in this role?

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering


• 3+ years of embedded firmware/software programming experience


• In-depth experience with embedded microprocessor-based design including interfacing to analog and digital devices


• Practical, hands‑on knowledge of C programming for embedded systems including use of a variety of IDEs for development and debug


• Strong understanding of real‑time systems, managing interrupts, threads, scheduling, semaphores, and state machines with and without an RTOS


• Hands on knowledge of various standard wired and wireless network communication protocols and topologies, including Ethernet, I2C, RS232, RS485/422, SPI, BLE


• Strong ability to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis. Proven ability to own problems to get them resolved.


• Ability to read schematics and debug analog and digital hardware using oscilloscope, logic analyzer and similar tools for troubleshooting


• Strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.


• Must be self‑driven, achievement oriented with ability to work on multiple development projects concurrently


• Familiarity with communication protocols SNMP, DNP, IEC61850 is a plus
