Job summary

Sunday Robotics is building advanced home robotics and seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to own the embedded Linux compute stack for our robotics platform. You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and ML teams to bring up new compute and integrate the full stack.

You will work on bootloader, kernel, drivers, build systems (Yocto/Buildroot), hardware bring-up on carrier boards, OTA updates, and CI pipelines for embedded images.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in CS, Computer Engineering, EE, or related field.
• 3+ years of embedded Linux/systems software development with hands-on bring-up.
• Strong C/C++ and ideally Rust; experience with Yocto/Buildroot.
• Deep understanding of boot flow and low-level peripherals.
• Experience debugging at hardware/software boundary with scopes/JTAG.
• Familiarity with CI pipelines for embedded Linux images.

Responsibilities

What to Expect

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you’ll own platform software for the embedded Linux compute units running our robotics stack. You will collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, software, and machine-learning teams to integrate our full robotics stack on a new compute.

What You'll Do

• Own the embedded software stack (bootloader, kernel, devicetree, BSP, and drivers) for compute platforms based on SoCs like NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm etc
• Develop and maintain Linux kernel drivers and userspace integration for sensors, GMSL cameras, displays, storage, and high-speed interconnects (PCIe, USB, MIPI CSI/DSI, Ethernet, CAN)
• Own build system and BSP layers using Yocto/Buildroot or vendor SDKs like JetPack
• Work with the electrical engineering team to debug and bring up custom carrier boards
• Work closely with the software and machine-learning teams to optimize performance across the entire software stack
• Design and implement OTA end-to-end using RAUC, Mender, SWUpdate, or equivalent

What You'll Bring

• BS or MS in CS, Computer Engineering, EE, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years of embedded Linux / systems software development, including hands-on bringup on modern application-class SoCs (NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm Snapdragon, or similar)
• Strong proficiency in C and ideally C++ and/or Rust
• Strong experience with Yocto, Buildroot, or an equivalent embedded Linux build system, including custom layers/recipes and production image customization
• Deep understanding of the Linux boot flow, from bootloader to userspace, and low-level peripherals
• Comfortable working alongside electrical engineers: reading schematics, driving scopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG, and debugging at the hardware/software boundary
• Knowledge of power management, secure boot, watchdogs, and other production-readiness concerns
• Experience developing CI pipelines for embedded Linux images

Nice to Have

• Delivered at least one project from prototype phase into production
• Experience with PREEMPT_RT
• Familiarity with RTOS-based firmware development
• Experience with Python for scripting, data analysis, or test automation
