Qualifications

An excellent career opportunity is available for an 100% on-site Embedded Software Engineer within the Product Development team at ifm prover USA. This team develops innovative sensor technologies that bring new benefits to customers and support industrial automation and process applications. The successful candidate will design, develop, test, and support embedded software for temperature, flow, and industrial sensing products. This role works closely with mechanical, electrical, sensor development, manufacturing, quality, and global engineering teams to bring products from early prototypes through production release.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement embedded software for sensor products.
  • Develop firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller-based platforms and real-time embedded systems.
  • Participate in software architecture, system design reviews, and code reviews.
  • Develop algorithms for sensor measurement, filtering, diagnostics, calibration, communications, and related signal-processing functions.
  • Design software that is structured, modular, maintainable, and reusable across a broader family of products.I
  • interface software with analog and digital electronics and support hardware/software integration.
  • Support all phases of development, from initial prototypes through final product release and production implementation.V
  • validate software and product performance against specifications, including debugging, root-cause analysis, documentation, and design release support.
  • Create internal tools, scripts, and utilities to support product development, testing, data analysis, and automation.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and global development teams.
  • Maintain technical documentation throughout product development, including design notes, test procedures, validation results, and release documentation.
  • Support product improvements, manufacturing support, production test systems, and field issue investigations.
  • Participate in technology evaluations and feasibility studies for future sensing products.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of embedded software development experience.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, real-time embedded systems, and embedded development workflows.
  • Familiarity with common embedded hardware interfaces and peripherals such as I2C, SPI, DMA, and UART.
  • Familiarity with software debugging tools, lab equipment, and hardware/software troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of hardware/software integration and ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Experience with version control and disciplined software configuration practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional engineering team.
  • Ability to work on-site 100% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing industrial automation products, sensors, process instrumentation, or products for the process control industry.
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M, STM32, or similar microcontroller platforms.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as IO-Link, MODBUS, RS-485, or Ethernet-based industrial protocols.
  • Familiarity with signal processing, measurement algorithms, diagnostics, calibration methods, or sensor compensation techniques.
  • Experience with MATLAB and/or Python for data analysis, scripting, test automation, or engineering tools.
  • Experience with RTOS-based systems.
  • Knowledge of reliability testing, EMC considerations, environmental testing, or product qualification.
  • Experience developing reusable embedded software platforms for a family of related products.
  • Exposure to manufacturing support, production test systems, or field issue troubleshooting.
