About this job

Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description

The Software Engineer will contribute to the planning, analysis, design, development, and verification of software projects used in commercial aircraft environments. This role focuses on embedded software and firmware for avionics products, offering exposure to the full product lifecycle from design and qualification through manufacturing, testing, and product support.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of avionic equipment by designing, debugging, and documenting assembly language and high-level software at the project level.
  • Support the growth of entry-level software professionals through guidance, mentorship, and technical assistance.
  • Collaborate with project engineers and other software staff to determine optimal software/hardware partitioning for one or more ongoing projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to software and hardware teams throughout the development of various projects.
  • Specify software requirements and implement software according to those requirements for use in products and in-house equipment.
  • Participate in the software verification process for both personally developed software and software created by other engineers.
  • Generate clear and complete documentation for all developed software in accordance with current procedures and standards.
  • Assist engineering colleagues in isolating and resolving issues reported by customers following product release.
  • Work hands-on with embedded software and firmware solutions that are integrated into aerospace and avionics products used in aircraft.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of software development and verification practices within an aviation-focused engineering environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience programming in C and C++ languages for embedded or firmware applications.
  • Experience developing embedded software and firmware in a commercial or industrial environment.
  • Strong proficiency with C for embedded systems.
  • Ability to participate in full software lifecycle activities including design, implementation, debugging, verification, and documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to understand electronic schematics and troubleshoot hardware.
  • Familiarity with the DO-178B/DO-178C software development process for avionics software is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) concepts.
  • Familiarity with basic DSP algorithms such as FIR, IIR, and tone detection.
  • Experience or interest in applying DSP techniques to audio processing.
  • Familiarity with audio CODECs is a plus.
  • Experience with Analog Devices Inc. DSP integrated circuits for embedded applications is a plus.
  • Familiarity with DSP software development tools, such as CrossCore Embedded Studio, is a plus.
  • Interest in working across the full product lifecycle, including design, qualification, manufacturing, testing, and product support.
  • Comfort working closely with electrical, embedded software, firmware, test, hardware, and manufacturing engineers in a collaborative environment.

ON SITE: The work environment combines office space, manufacturing areas, and testing laboratories, allowing engineers to stay close to the physical products they develop. Team members work on real aerospace and avionics products that are installed in aircraft, in a hands-on engineering setting focused on tangible hardware and embedded systems rather than purely internal software or IT. The facility houses engineering and manufacturing under one roof, providing direct visibility into design, qualification, production, testing, and in‑service product support. The location in Miami offers a local aerospace opportunity without the need to relocate to a traditional aerospace hub.
