Job summary

STR is seeking an Embedded Software Architect to drive system definition and software architecture for advanced signal processing on resource-constrained embedded platforms. You will work with CPUs, DSPs, and FPGAs, interfacing with spacecraft integrators to set requirements and guide development.

The role emphasizes algorithm analysis, architecture derivation from mission needs, and mentoring of engineers within an agile, DevOps-enabled team.

Qualifications

BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
7+ years of embedded software development for resource-constrained systems (CPU/DSP/FPGA SoCs) or equivalent experience.
Proficient in C/C++ for embedded systems; MATLAB familiarity a plus.
Experience deriving system/software architecture from algorithms and mission requirements.

Responsibilities

Analyze customer use cases and signal processing algorithms to generate clear system and software requirements for embedded platforms.
Evaluate computational architectures (CPU, DSP, FPGA, or hybrid) balancing performance and resources.
Architect, design, and implement embedded software at middleware or application level with focus on efficiency and reliability.
Optimize and port software to maximize performance on SoCs; define processor/FPGA functional splits.
Collaborate with space/ satellite integrators to translate mission objectives into specs.
Provide mentoring, code reviews, and technical guidance to junior engineers.
