Qualifications

• J.D. and active membership in the California bar (or eligibility to register as in-house counsel in California).
• California Bar membership preferred; or licensed in any U.S. jurisdiction with RHIC eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Act as embedded counsel to AI and R&D teams, advising on design, model development, and launch decisions from concept through release.
• Advise on health data across the AI lifecycle: HIPAA, BAAs, de-identification, and state health privacy laws.
• Counsel on AI-specific risk: data provenance, licensing, output liability, FDA boundaries, IP in AI outputs, and disclosure obligations.
• Draft and negotiate data licenses, model terms, research collaborations, BAAs, DPAs, and evaluation agreements.
• Build scalable legal processes: intake/review, launch checklists, playbooks, and training for engineers/product teams.
• Partner with Privacy, Security, Regulatory, Clinical, Trust & Safety, and Marketing for governance of new AI capabilities.
