Job summary

SpaceX is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for the Starlink OS/Platform to advance Linux-based spacecraft and ground systems. You will work from early boot loaders to business logic with a focus on deterministic, secure software for space-grade silicon and peripherals.

Responsibilities include maintaining OSS branches (Linux/Buildroot/U-Boot), enabling secure boot, testing updates, and interfacing with hardware teams across silicon and application software domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science; OR 2+ years of software development experience.
• Development experience in C, C++, Python and/or Rust.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update in house OSS branches of Linux, Buildroot, and U-Boot.
• Support secureboot and runtime security for Linux-based satellite components.
• Maintain spacecraft Ethernet network and connectivity.
• Develop, deploy and test software update processes for spacecraft.
• Interface with Silicon, Electrical, and Application Software Engineers to bring hardware from prototype to on-orbit operations.
