Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking an Embedded Operating System Software Developer at Level 3 or Level 4 to join our Linthicum, MD team. You will work on sensor command and control, and system tests across multiple Space platforms using C, C++, Python in a Yocto environment.

The role requires agile collaboration, design and debugging across the full software lifecycle, with a 9/80 schedule and 100% onsite work. Top Secret clearance with SCI access is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of software development experience in embedded real-time systems (Level 3) or 8 years (Level 4).
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with embedded operating systems and Linux scripting.
  • Knowledge of FPGA VHDL development and SOC hardware.
  • Experience with Bash scripting and software configuration management tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

Overview

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking an Embedded Operating System Software Developer – Level 3 (Principal) or Level 4 (Sr Principal) to join our team in Linthicum, MD. This role focuses on sensor command and control, sensor system test, and supporting a variety of Space platforms.

Responsibilities

The Operating Systems Software Developer will work on and support sensor command and control (embedded systems) and sensor system test (command of test equipment and emulation) for a variety of Space platforms. Selected individuals will work on an agile development team, primarily using C, C++, Python, and scripting in a Yocto build environment. The individual will work through all phases of the software development cycle, including design, development, integration, and test. Conduct reviews of software-related products, software designs, and additional technical documents, and participate in cross-functional scrum teams.

Successful candidates are expected to understand system requirements, translate them into system designs, implement and debug software to meet defined completion criteria, and efficiently operate in a team environment. Existing engineering and system specialists will be available to assist with any activities associated with executing primary tasking. The selected individual will be expected to prioritize and make recommendations to Technical Leads, as required, to implement assigned tasking.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. The position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

Security and Clearance Requirements

This position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access. U.S. citizenship is required.

Basic Qualifications – Level 3 (Principal)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or another STEM discipline with a minimum of 5 years of software development experience working on embedded real‑time systems; OR Master’s degree with 3 years of such experience; OR PhD degree with 1 year of such experience.
  • Experience developing in C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with embedded operating systems.
  • Knowledge of FPGA VHDL development and System‑on‑Chip (SOC) hardware.
  • Experience with Bash and Linux scripting.
  • Experience integrating developed software applications, including usage of tools and logs to verify correct operation and identify problem areas.
  • Ability to debug your own code, as well as trace and understand existing code.
  • Experience with using software configuration management tools.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.

  • Experience with embedded processor security.
  • Hands‑on hardware testing and debugging experience.
  • Ability to debug complex integrated applications or test setup issues.
  • Experience with software control of digital logic / FPGAs / firmware.
  • Experience with network topology.
  • Experience as a member of an Agile Scrum team.
  • Experience with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
Salary

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 – $163,200.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 – $203,600.00
