Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is looking for an Embedded Flight Software Engineer – Level 3/4 to join our team in Linthicum, MD. The engineer will design, develop, integrate, and test software that manages a Space payload unit, ensuring compliance with established requirements. The role is 100% onsite, on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, and often involves agile development with C++, Linux, and Python.

Responsibilities

• Work through all phases of the software development cycle including design, development, integration, and test.
• Conduct peer reviews of software-related products, designs, and technical documents.
• Participate in cross‑functional scrum teams.
• Understand system requirements and implement/debug software to meet criteria.
• Prioritize and recommend tasks to Technical Leads.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or STEM field with a minimum of 5 years of embedded real‑time software development OR Master’s degree with 3 years OR PhD with 1 year.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with SCI access.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Experience with object‑oriented C++ code, debugging, and traceability.
• Experience integrating software applications and using tools/logs to verify operation.
• Experience reviewing work products and providing feedback.
• Experience with embedded software, cross‑compiling with GCC, Linux environment, and software configuration management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI Clearance.
• Agile Scrum team experience.
• Python development experience.
• Embedded C++ optimization.
• Debugging with GDB.
• Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
• Software control of digital logic / FPGA / firmware.
• Hardware integration and testing experience.
• Ability to debug complex integrated applications or test setup issues.

Salary

Level 3: $108,800.00 – $163,200.00. Level 4: $135,800.00 – $203,600.00. Salary is determined based on scope, responsibilities, and experience.
