Job summary

Quantum Systems GmbH, Gilching, seeks an Embedded Linux Software Engineer for the Maritime N3XT team. You will design, implement and optimize software for autopilots, navigation and mission tasks, collaborating with mechanical, electrical and software engineers to deliver advanced naval tech.

You will integrate sensors and cameras, test in field environments and contribute to logging, tooling and documentation. Fluency in English is expected.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Linux software development in embedded or robotics.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ (14+) with Linux applications experience.
  • Understanding of Linux internals and system services.
  • Experience with cross-compilation and Yocto/Buildroot.
  • Hands-on debugging and log analysis.
  • Experience with CI/CD and Git workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving for software-hardware integration.
  • Good technical documentation skills.
  • Clear English communication.

Job description

As an embedded Linux software engineer in the NEXT Maritime department you will develop software for our sea drones for control, navigation, mission specific tasks and evaluation of operation. Together with our small but mixed team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers you will develop world‑class products that will shape the future of naval technology.

What is your Day to Day Mission:
  • Engange into design decisions for new technical solutions and bring in the embedded software point of view
  • Implement, maintain and optimize software for autopilots, communication, navigation, payload specific processes
  • Integrate new sensors, cameras etc. into an existing hardware and software environment, aligning with suppliers and other teams
  • Test and evaluate new integrations in field tests
  • Support your colleagues with software specific tasks: log evaluation, tool development etc.
What you bring to the team:
  • 3+ years of experience in Linux software development, preferably in embedded or robotics systems
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ (14 or newer) with proven experience developing Linux applications
  • Understanding of Linux internals, including system services, device trees, and kernel modules
  • Experience with cross-compilation, Yocto, Buildroot, or similar build systems
  • Hands‑on experience with debugging tools (e.g., GDB, strace, perf) and log analysis
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and release management
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to debug both software and hardware integration issues
  • Proficiency in technical documentation, including interface definitions and architectural decisions
  • You are highly self‑motivated and drive your area of responsibility independently
  • You are open and curious towards new technologies and method.
  • Due to your open, communicative, friendly, and competent attitude, it is easy for you to be considered as an internal expert
  • Communication in English is a matter of course for you.
