Job summary

Tundra Technical Solutions in Saint Paul, MN, is seeking an Embedded Hardware Test Engineer for a 3-month on-site contract. The role focuses on hardware testing of medical device components, including verification at board and system levels, data analysis, and documentation.

The engineer will translate requirements into test protocols, set up lab test environments, perform measurements, generate reports, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of hardware testing or related engineering role.
  • Strong foundation in analog and digital electronics.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, drawings, requirements, and specs.
  • Hands-on use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, logic analyzers.
  • Experience with embedded hardware, microcontrollers, sensors, and power electronics.
  • Experience developing test protocols and generating verification reports.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize in a fast-paced project.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop verification test protocols and procedures from product requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute board-level and system-level verification testing.
  • Design and configure laboratory test setups with standard equipment.
  • Perform electrical measurements and analyze data against acceptance criteria.
  • Generate complete, traceable test reports documenting methods and conclusions.
  • Investigate test failures and support root-cause analysis.
  • Support design verification and validation activities for medical device products.
  • Manage testing activities to align with project schedules and deliverables.
  • Communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Electrical, Firmware, Mechanical, and Quality teams.

Support verification and validation of medical device hardware through board-level and system-level testing.

This role requires a self-driven engineer who can independently translate product requirements into test protocols, develop test setups, execute testing, analyze results, and generate comprehensive test documentation.

The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality, reliability, and compliance with applicable requirements.

Skills Required
  • 2-4 years of experience in hardware testing, system testing, product verification, or a related engineering role.
  • Strong foundation in analog and digital electronics.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, product requirements, and technical specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, logic analyzers, and electronic measurement instruments.
  • Working knowledge of embedded hardware, microcontrollers, sensor interfaces, and power electronics.
  • Experience developing test protocols, executing verification testing, and generating test reports.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation skills.
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and prioritize work in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including Electrical, Firmware, Mechanical, Systems, Quality, and Regulatory Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop verification test protocols and test procedures based on product requirements and design specifications.
  • Independently plan, coordinate, and execute board-level and system-level verification testing.
  • Design and configure laboratory test setups using standard electrical test equipment.
  • Perform electrical measurements, collect and analyze data, and evaluate results against acceptance criteria.
  • Generate complete and traceable test reports documenting methods, results, observations, and conclusions.
  • Investigate test failures, perform troubleshooting, and support root-cause analysis activities.
  • Support design verification and validation activities for medical device products.
  • Manage testing activities and priorities to support project schedules and deliverables.
  • Communicate technical findings, issues, risks, and recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, issue resolution, and design changes.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory procedures, quality system requirements, and documentation standards.
Education

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, ECE, EEE, or a related field.

Recent graduates with relevant internships, laboratory, or project experience are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or other regulated product development environments.
  • Experience with design verification (DV), verification and validation (V&V), or product qualification testing.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking, requirements management, and test management tools.
  • Experience authoring protocols, reports, and technical documentation in a regulated environment.

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $22.19/hour - $34.67/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
