Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a mid-level Firmware QA Engineer to lead automated testing and HIL framework development for embedded systems. You will design, implement, and scale tests within a CI/CD environment, partnering with hardware and firmware teams to ensure robust firmware performance.

The role requires strong Python scripting, experience with Robot Framework, and hands-on lab work with test equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering discipline required.
• 2–5 years of firmware QA or embedded systems testing experience.
• Strong Python or scripting language for test automation.
• Hands‑on with Robot Framework or similar tools (PyTest, Cypress).
• Knowledge of embedded systems architecture and firmware development principles.
• Experience with electronic lab equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer).
• Experience with Git and Bitbucket workflows (PRs, code reviews).
• Ability to translate specs into test plans and validation strategies.
• Strong debugging skills across hardware and software.
• Exposure to CAN, USB, Ethernet, UART, SPI protocols; Atlassian tools familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop automated test cases using Python and Robot Framework.
• Create detailed test plans aligned to product specs and requirements traceability (Xray for Jira).
• Build and maintain HIL automation frameworks to test firmware on hardware systems.
• Integrate automated tests into Bitbucket CI/CD pipelines to improve coverage.
• Collaborate with firmware engineers to debug system behavior and perform root cause analysis.
• Log and track defects in Jira throughout the lifecycle.
• Use diagnostic tools (logic analyzers, USB analyzers) for troubleshooting.
• Develop and maintain HIL lab environments and validation workflows.
• Operate lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies) for tests.
• Contribute in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and document test procedures/results.
