Job summary

Zipline in South San Francisco is seeking an Embedded Firmware intern to work on software that runs on vehicle and ground-system hardware. You’ll write and test software, work with hardware in the lab, and investigate real-world behavior with guidance from mentors.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with embedded platforms and C/C++, contribute to safety-critical systems, and participate in cross-functional reviews in a fast-growing global team.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; ideally in junior or senior year.
  • Strong understanding of core engineering fundamentals and ability to apply to firmware problems.
  • Experience with embedded platforms and C/C++ development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test embedded software for Zipline's vehicles and ground systems.
  • Work hands-on with hardware in the lab and learn how software interacts with sensors and power electronics.
  • Investigate unexpected behavior using logs and test equipment to develop reliable fixes.
  • Build automated tests to catch regressions and ensure safe real-world performance.
  • Own a scoped project from requirements through validation under mentorship.
  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews with cross-functional teams.
