Job summary

Barrette Workforce Solutions, LLC is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to join the Central New York team onsite in North Syracuse. You will design, develop, and debug embedded C firmware for microcontroller-based systems used in HVAC/R and industrial applications.

You’ll work closely with electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to move products from concept through production, debugging and validating firmware, and supporting manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Hands-on embedded C experience required.
• Strong understanding of microcontrollers, interrupts, timers and peripherals.
• Experience debugging bare-metal embedded firmware.
• Ability to troubleshoot firmware/hardware interactions.
• Comfortable explaining previous embedded projects and solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware in C.
• Develop firmware for 8-, 16-, and 32-bit MCUs.
• Create control logic for sensors, relays, motors, and switches.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers on product development and integration.
• Debug hardware and firmware with oscilloscopes and test equipment.
• Participate in new product development, testing, and validation.
• Troubleshoot existing products and support continuous improvement.
• Document code and participate in design reviews.

Salary: $85,000–$115,000 annually

About the Opportunity

We are partnering with an established Central New York manufacturer to find an Embedded Firmware Engineer to join its engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on engineer who enjoys writing embedded C code, developing electronic controls, and seeing products move from concept through production.

You'll work closely with electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to develop and improve microcontroller‑based electronic products used in HVAC/R and industrial applications.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware using C programming.

• Develop firmware for 8‑bit, 16‑bit, and 32‑bit microcontrollers.

• Create control logic for sensors, switches, relays, motors, and other electronic components.

• Collaborate with hardware engineers on product development, integration, and troubleshooting.

• Debug hardware and firmware using oscilloscopes, development tools, and laboratory equipment.

• Participate in new product development, testing, and validation.

• Troubleshoot existing products and support continuous improvement initiatives.

• Document code, participate in design reviews, and support products through manufacturing.

What We're Looking For

• Hands‑on experience writing embedded C firmware for microcontroller‑based systems is required.

• Strong understanding of microcontrollers, interrupts, timers, peripherals, and hardware interfaces.

• Experience developing and debugging bare‑metal embedded firmware.

• Ability to troubleshoot interactions between firmware and electronic hardware.

• Comfortable explaining previous embedded projects, technical challenges, and solutions.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Experience with new product development is strongly preferred.

• Experience with HVAC/R controls, industrial electronics, or similar products is a plus.

Compensation & Additional Details

• Competitive base salary of $85,000–$115,000, depending on experience.

• Full‑time, permanent position with an established manufacturer.
