Job summary

Schneider Electric is seeking an Embedded Engineer Co-Op for the spring 2027 term in Andover, MA. You will contribute to developing embedded system firmware for communication protocols and IoT solutions, working on an agile team in a state-of-the-art industrial automation environment.

You will gain hands-on experience with Embedded Linux, VxWorks, and real-time firmware, while learning CI/CD practices, networking fundamentals, and DevOps tools in a collaborative setting.

Qualifications

  • Senior student in BA/BS in Computer or Electrical Engineering expected January 2027.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, Linux.
  • Experience with Embedded Firmware Development in Linux.
  • Familiar with Networking and Security fundamentals; knowledge of Git and CI/CD.
  • Able to work independently and in a team; strong communication.
  • Authorized to work in the United States full-time; no sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop on‑premise firmware for POSIX platforms (Embedded Linux, VxWorks) in C.
  • Develop, execute, and automate testing of communication protocols.
  • Contribute to Real-time Embedded Firmware development using C, C++, Linux.

The CoE Connectivity team of Schneider Electric is seeking an on-site Co-Op to contribute to developing the embedded system firmware for communication protocols and IoT (Internet of Things) enabled solutions in the industry sector.

You will work with a dynamic and agile team on cutting-edge technologies for the industrial automation business in our Andover, MA office.

What will you do:
  • Researching and investigating on-promise firmware development for POSIX-based platforms (Embedded Linux and VxWorks) for embedded-C.
  • Developing, executing, and automating the testing of the communication protocols.
  • Contributing to the development of the Ream-time Comm Embedded Firmware using C, C++, Linux
What qualifications will make you successful:
  • Current enrollment in a BA/BS program in Computer or Electrical Engineering or directly related field required (senior student as of January 2027)
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++, python, Linux
  • Experience with Embedded Firmware Development in a Linux environment.
  • Proficiency in Networking and Security fundamentals, Development tools and IDEs(VSCode, Wireshark)
  • Knowledge of GIT, CI/CD processes, and DevOps, use of AI efficiently
  • Strong curiosity about unfamiliar technologies and a deep desire to learn new
  • Ability to understand product requirements and design possible solutions.
  • Ability to proactively attempt different solutions to solve problems.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment to deliver efficiently.
  • Effective communication abilities to foster team engagement.
