Job summary

Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), a Honeywell-managed facility, seeks an Electrical Engineer II to design firmware and software for embedded systems and to support advanced test systems. You will develop test benches, analyze results, and document procedures, with opportunities to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as needed.

The role requires a BS in engineering or physics (ABET-accredited), 2+ years of relevant experience, and U.S.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of engineering/analytical experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain firmware and software for embedded systems (FPGA, microcontrollers).
  • Develop test plans, write test benches, analyze results, and perform timing analysis.
  • Document code, test procedures, and integration guidelines.
  • Gather requirements from customers for embedded systems within automated test systems.
  • Design product and acceptance equipment; designate tooling and lab equipment.
  • Develop evaluation tests, quality audits, and product/process capability studies.
  • Conduct audits and analyze processes to identify and correct problems.
  • Prepare evaluation reports and initiate product improvements.

Job description

The Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), managed and operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies, is a premier advanced manufacturing facility that supports the safety, security, reliability and effectiveness of our nation’s nuclear deterrent. With nearly 7,000 employees combined in Kansas City, Missouri, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, KCNSC protects our nation and allies by producing trusted national security products and services for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration.

Summary

The Electrical Engineer II role is an experienced level position performing routine to moderately complex engineering functions on assigned projects or sub‑projects of a general nature by applying standard mathematical, physical science, and/or engineering technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain firmware and software for embedded systems, including programmable logic devices (FPGA), and microcontrollers.
  • Develop test plans, write and execute test benches, analyze results, perform static timing analysis, apply constraints, debug and correct errors, to prove in logic designs.
  • Document code, test procedures, and integration guidelines.
  • Work with customers to understand, clarify and document requirements for embedded systems within a larger automated test system.
  • Design product and acceptance equipment; develop measurement methods, acquire, and designate tooling, cables, laboratory and other equipment to support product acceptance.
  • Develop test procedures and perform routine to moderately complex engineering evaluation tests, product and process capability studies, quality audits, product or project data reviews, and other engineering evaluation work to assure product manufacturability.
  • Conduct audits, analyze processes, products, and inspection records to anticipate, identify, and correct problems and to establish quality levels and trends.
  • Prepare evaluation reports, analyze discrepancies, make recommendations for and initiate improvements for product.
You Must Have
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited university in Engineering or Physics
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in engineering, analytical, or related technical activities.
  • Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on‑site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
  • United States Citizenship
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
  • Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
We Value
  • Ability to understand and trace signals through printed circuit board schematics and other technical drawings for cables, equipment chassis, etc.
  • Hands‑on experience with logic analyzers and other laboratory test instruments, such as oscilloscopes, digitizers, DMMs.
  • Basic knowledge of low‑level serial communication protocols, such as SPI, I2C, UART, TCP/IP, etc.
  • Participate in hardware‑software verification and validation.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux bash commands.
  • Open‑source embedded Linux (e.g. Yocto) development.
  • AMD Xilinx Vivado, Vitis and Petalinux development tools.
  • Prefer the following programming languages: C/C++, Verilog and/or VHDL. Version control: Git
