Job summary

WHOOP in Boston is seeking an Embedded Engineer II to join our Software Organization. You will work with Hardware, Signal Processing, Manufacturing and Product teams to develop and deliver firmware for our devices.

The role focuses on building stable, power-efficient firmware, debugging across hardware and software, and contributing to architecture, documentation, reviews, and test automation while leveraging AI tools to accelerate development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in EE, CE, CS or related field.
• 2+ years of embedded software development experience.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient in C/C++ and driver development.
• Experience with RTOS and hardware-software interaction.

Responsibilities

• Develop and test firmware in C for WHOOP’s product line, leveraging software tools, hardware tools, and instrumentation to aid in the development and debug process.
• Contribute to firmware architecture design and feature development.
• Debug issues across software and hardware domains.
• Write and maintain clear technical documentation.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure compliance with coding standards.
• Support test automation by designing, implementing, and debugging firmware self-tests.
• Support electrical development by contributing to component selection and bringing up drivers.
• Leverage AI as a development tool and share learnings with teammates.

WHOOP is looking for an enthusiastic Embedded Engineer II to join our Software Organization as part of the Embedded Engineering team. You will work with Hardware, Signal Processing, Manufacturing and Product teams to develop and deliver against Hardware and Software roadmaps. The Embedded team’s mission is to build and deploy stable, accurate, and power efficient firmware platforms for all our in house developed devices via a seamless 24/7 connection and interaction between our mobile apps.

At Whoop, the Embedded team is at the intersection of the Hardware and Software domains, bridging the gap between the physical and the digital world. As an Embedded Engineer II you will collaborate with a diverse group of the industry’s best and brightest engineers in supporting current products, as well as developing new cutting edge products that help our members achieve their health and fitness goals with industry leading monitoring and data analysis.

• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

• 2+ years of embedded software development experience

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to use electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and logic analyzers to aid in debug.

• Proficient with device driver development

• Proficient in C/C++ programming

• Fluency in electrical engineering fundamentals and knowledge of electrical design basics

• Familiarity with operating systems (OS) and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

• Familiarity with system communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and USART.

• Familiarity with version control using git

• Familiarity with unit and functional testing
