Job summary

WindBorne Systems in Redwood City, CA seeks an Embedded Electrical Engineer Intern to design, prototype, and test PCBs for flight and ground systems, and develop firmware for initial bringup of new boards. You will debug hardware and coordinate bench/environmental tests, with an emphasis on reliability in extreme conditions.

The role involves close collaboration with mechanical engineers, rapid iteration, and hands-on bench work on a balloon constellation project.

Qualifications

• Strong fundamentals in embedded circuit and system design.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting circuit boards and electronic assemblies.
• Reading schematics and datasheets.
• Embedded firmware development (C/C++).
• Common communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART).
• PCB layout and design tools (Altium).
• Lab equipment: oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and test PCBs for flight and ground systems.
• Develop firmware for initial bringup of new boards and testing of existing boards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues on hardware.
• Conduct bench and environmental testing to validate electrical systems.
• Coordinate with mechanical engineers for integration on vehicle with many PCBs and custom parts.
• Support flight operations with troubleshooting deployed hardware via telemetry.
• Coordinate PCBA manufacturing for R&D and production.
