Job summary

Bonterra seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to embed with Democratic and Progressive partners, driving adoption of agentic AI in real-world workflows. You will design, build, and deploy agentic skills that tie directly to client processes and the NGP VAN platform, collaborating across engineering and product teams.

You will lead discovery sessions, translate client needs into practical technical specs, and expand API and interface capabilities to support an expanding set of agentic use cases.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional software engineering or product management experience.
• Experience building with LLM APIs, agentic frameworks, and MCP-based tooling.
• Proficiency in back-end or full-stack development using Python, Node.js, or .NET.
• Strong REST API fluency, both consuming and designing endpoints.
• Client-facing experience: run discovery sessions and translate requirements.

Responsibilities

• Embed on-site or remote with client organizations to understand workflows and identify high-value opportunities for agentic AI automation.
• Lead workflow discovery sessions with client stakeholders to map processes and co-develop a prioritized roadmap of agentifiable workflows.
• Design and build agentic skills atop NGP VAN interfaces and Claude agent ecosystem.
• Manage the full skill delivery lifecycle from requirements gathering through design, build, testing, deployment and iteration.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to client staff and leadership, communicating AI concepts accessibly and shepherding adoption.
• Contribute features and enhancements to the NGP VAN Interface and MCP-based integration layer to expand capabilities.
• Expand the NGP VAN API by identifying gaps and contributing to API expansion efforts.
• Document skill designs, deployment patterns, and reusable components to build a shared library for future engagements.
• Represent client needs internally by synthesizing field learnings into product feedback and priorities.
